Assignment 2 Photo Manipulation Assignment 15%

The technique for altering, manipulating and puting photos together is the one reason used in Photoshop, Picasa, Picnik and etc. The whole reason being is to be able to explore  and express the true depth of the photo. I believe these techniques are extremely helpful and allow the photo to be seen differently. In my opinion, these techniques such as adjusted exposure, colour, cropping and auto adjust help the photo be lively.
For this assignment, I used Picasa 3 to manipulate the photos that I look in Las Vagas, and of my Cruise Ship- Freedom of the Seas.

This photo is Lake Mead located in Las Vagas. It was absolutely mind-blowing to know that the lake was manmade rather than created naturally.   In the original copy, you can tell that the photograph was taken far up in the sky.  The beautiful white clouds and blue sky truly brings out the lake. Feels like you can reach and touch the sky. This photograph has an original life like affect. In Photo B, I manipulated the photo by using adjustment layers being black and white.  I increased the shadowing and improved the highlights of the photo. I find it allows the photo to have different shades and sharp special adjustments. I enjoy manipulating black and white photos because they can be very powerful. If you really take a look at the tones of the photo and lighting contrast, they are quite amazing to look at. As you can see, the clouds are whiter, the top of the lake is darker and the middle of the lake is shaded lightly. The tuning on the photo has full light and shadows as well.  In photo C, I manipulated the photo into a warm tone feel. This photo in particular brought out the skin tone of the actual lake itself, and boosted the soft affect. I truly admire this photo because the picture has a different colour to it and seems to have a more settled down quality. Also, the background is less the focus compared to the black and white photo.

This photo was taken in Las Vagas Nevada. The picture itself is a very famous hotel called New York New York. This hotel has a roller coaster surrounding the main building of the hotel. This hotel is very popular in Las Vegas and is known for its best service.  The original photo is sharp and clear in grasping the full affect of the photo. The colours truly bring out the magnificent texture and tone as well. This photo has a wonderful bright shape and uplifting contrast. In photo B, I wanted to focus on the shades, tones and color temperature of the photo. I wanted all the attention going toward the hotel building and really grasping the shadowing and tone affect. This picture allows the focus to be on the building and not so much the sky.  I  added a brightness and contrast adjustment layer, where I lowered the brightness and increased the contrast. By doing so I was aiming to bring out the brightness of the hotel in a dark setting.  I really enjoy looking at this photo because I like the fact that there is a focus and deeper feeling. I didn’t want to increase the saturation too much, however I feel it adds a darker and deeper colour tone. In photo C, I required a soft focus. It is meant to be for softening the main focus around the centre point. I feel it shows what I find most important in the photo, which is the front of the hotel New York New York.  I wanted this photo to grasp viewer’s full awareness and concentration of the front of the hotel.  This particular tool, allowed for the rest of the picture to be blurred out. Also, I increased the tuning on the photo making it have more highlights and full light.

This photo was taken in Grand Cayman where the water is super blue and the sky is absolutely beautiful. I took this photo while my friend was in front of the boat. As you see, the cruise itself it huge!!
Being on the boat was such an amazing experience. It has everything you can possibly imagine arcade, ice rink, 5 pools, 4 hot tubs, bars, clubs, restaurants and even a shopping mall! It was such a thrill vacation. In photo B, the main purpose I changed was the cropping of the photo. My vision was to increase the image while still getting my friend into the photo with the boat.  This allows the photo to be clearer of my friend while getting the real significance of the boat. In photo C, I cropped the photo so that you can just see the cruise boat. I want the viewers to really get a glimpse of how large cruises really are.  Have you ever been on a cruise?  Would you ever go on a cruise?
It truly amazes me when I look at this photo because being on a boat that big is extremely scary. The fact that people go away on cruise vacations twice or three times a year is remarkable. It is incredible what the captain of the ship does.
I wish I could drive a cruise boat! Don’t you?
